What I would give to have been at this destination wedding at Lanikuhonua in Hawaii! Event planning by Cherished in Hawaii Weddings created a stunning day full to the brim with sweet organic details. One of my favorite aspects of this wedding is how the details let the natural surroundings shine. Greenery, ivory and white colored blooms, a petal lined aisle, and a beautiful clear tent, were perfect amidst Hawaii’s incredible back drop.
The bride Anna was an absolute vision dressed in a gown and veil from Carol Hannah paired with a blush pair of Dune London wedding shoes. A gorgeous up do with a soft makeup look by Cherbu by Cheryl Hazelgrove, talk about bridal beauty perfection! And those flower girls dressed in the sweetest sparkly dresses by Maiden Lane Boutique complete with flower crowns and parasols, they are just the cutest. The groom and his groomsmen also looked extra dapper dressed in classic suits from Men’s Wearhouse.
The night ended with a tower of donuts from Regal Bakery and a few sunset portraits on the beach before these two officially started their forever. My kind of wedding, and how lucky are we that we get to relive it through the lens of Jenna Lee Pictures.
Story: We met in 2010 at a cocktail bar in Philadelphia – completely random! We were both living there at the time and had each gone out with friends. We hit it off and had our first date the next weekend.
Proposal: Ben proposed in our Brooklyn neighborhood on a pier overlooking New York City. We had just had a fun meal at a Moroccan restaurant on a Thursday night and he surprised me with proposing and a trip to the Dominican Republic for the weekend!
About the wedding: We live in New York, Anna is from Philadelphia and Ben is from Perth, Australia so we wanted to meet everyone halfway in Hawaii. The wedding would be the only time our families and friends would be in one place so we wanted everyone to be welcome. We never expected 105 guests to come to a destination wedding but were so thrilled everyone wanted to celebrate with us!
Why did you choose your wedding venue: Lanikuhonua appealed to us because of the beach side setting and views of the sunset. We loved that it was fully customizable down to the linen colors and chairs. I’ve never seen a more perfect outdoor space for a venue!
Ceremony: As a beach kid from Perth, Ben was so happy to be married by the beach instead of any canopy or floral back drop, we decided to be married in front of two palm trees. We each picked a reading that felt true to us and our future – an excerpt from The Velveteen Rabbit and a quote from the Dalai Lama. The officiant read us completely wrong vows but we didn’t stop to correct him, all we cared about was being married! We walked back down the aisle together to “You Make My Dreams” from Hall & Oates.
Reception: We wanted everyone to have a great time! We added games like bag toss, jenga, and connect 4 to the outdoor venue. We also wanted the music to express our style so we played Ben’s favorite during dinner- 80’s and 90’s hip hop! He and I jammed out to Eminem’s “Lose Yourself” during our sunset photos on the beach. Our family and friends spent the entire night on the dance floor. Ben with his dad, cousin, and uncles from New Zealand performed a Maori Haka!
The Flowers: I’m all about texture! I wanted white and green flowers as wild as possible – my bouquet was 18” across and weighed around 10 pounds! Dahlias, garden roses, and seeded eucalyptus were the main focus. We also added large sprigs of rosemary, Ben’s favorite.
Cake: Instead of a cake, we had a donut display from Regal Bakery – they were amazing! We had 10 flavors and the guests enjoyed trying everything from vanilla frosted flakes to maple bacon.
Favors: Anna’s best friend from college designed custom wedding koozies and napkins for the guests. The koozies were the perfect solution to keeping your drink cold in the Hawaii heat.
